We are pleased to introduce our companion-resort and cultural partner, the renowned Swiss resort of VERBIER and the
VAL DE BAGNES located in the spectacular Alps of Canton Valais in south-west Switzerland, close to the country's borders with France and Italy.
The region shares many features with KENMARE - outstanding natural beauty - a rich cultural heritage - a warm and welcoming
people engaged mainly in traditional farming who tend the magnificent dairy-herds that graze the flower-scented Alpine pastures in summertime
to provide the milk from which the region's excellent Bagnes and Raclette cheeses are made. In short, a region which offers high-quality tourism embracing breathtaking scenery, archaeological
sites pre-dating history, lively sporting events and cultural activities, and top-class hotels and restaurants offering culinary delights which will satisfy the most discerning traveller.
In the winter season (November - April), VERBIER/BAGNES operates an ultra-modern system of 90 cablecars and skilifts giving speedy access to 400 kms (250 miles) of manicured ski-runs which extend over 4 valleys and reach peaks
soaring to 3330 metres (over 10,000 feet), and provide skiing for all levels of proficiency. Cross-country skiing, para-skiing, high-altitude ski-trekking, ice-skating, curling, tobogganing, snowboarding, indoor swimming-pools, and relaxed dining in cosy restaurants
complete the panoply of attractions available.
In the summer season (July - September) other outdoor activities take-over: tennis, golf paragliding, mountain-biking, bowling (pétanque),
horseriding, hiking on the 400 kms of mountain trails alongside sparkling streams that meander through forests of pine and larch and sun-drenched meadows knee-deep in alpine flowers. Among the
many events taking place the most renowned is, without doubt, the internationally-acclaimed VERBIER FESTIVAL AND ACADEMY - a 17-day feast of (mainly) classical music which brings-together
young discoveries, world-famous instrumental virtuosi and singers, and the UBS Verbier Festival Youth Orchestra under the direction of some of the world's
greatest orchestral conductors.
